Inherited Beliefs and Self-Perception
In addition to having our own beliefs about ourselves in the world, we also consciously and subconsciously inherit beliefs from our family. For those inclined towards data, researching to your heart's content is an option. My learning comes from experience, doing, and hearing about other people's experiences. What I've come to understand is that our DNA carries unresolved issues and family traits. Consequently, we sometimes bear burdens without understanding their origins, which may stem from unresolved family issues carried in the DNA.
The Impact of Layers of Influence
There are always layers upon layers influencing things. A valuable starting point is to always question: what do I want to be experiencing differently in my life right now? It is acknowledged that the mind possesses a negative polarity. A common adage is that for every negative thought, particularly when absorbing negative information, such as from the news, it needs to be counteracted with two positive ones. This concept is akin to balancing caffeine intake with water: for every cup of coffee, drink two cups of water. Therefore, it’s imperative to offset the negative thoughts we internalize, whether from external sources or our own minds.
Managing and Directing the Mind
Sometimes it feels like our mind is controlling us, but mastering the mind, its discipline, and direction is crucial. If you have negative self-esteem or other issues, and you find your inner self-talk being predominantly punitive, you must take charge, stand firm, set boundaries, and instruct that mind to retreat. Different individuals utilize varied strategies; some might employ humor. Personally, my favorite responses to negative self-talk were either expressing gratitude with a sardonic "Thank you for sharing, that's so helpful," or dismissively saying something like, "Step outside the door, I'll pick you up on my way out." Use whichever method suits you best.
Imagery and Mental Discipline
An image that might be helpful involves a lion tamer at a circus or a Las Vegas show, with a stool and a whip, commanding the beast to "back off." It is at this point where we, too, must stand firm, crack our metaphorical whip, and assertively declare, "No, no more, shut up, back off, enough already!" When a voice inside whispers negativity, proclaiming you'll never improve, you're inconsequential, the situation is hopeless, or solutions are non-existent, you must stop that voice.
Taking Charge of Mental Focus
We must seize control over our mind and determine its focus. In your search for health and happiness, conducting research, exploring solutions, or seeking therapies and supplements are valid pursuits, it is crucial to control the ruminating mind, preventing it from dominating our thoughts. Remember, if you have that negative voice continuously whispering in your ear, it will counterbalance much of your positivity, and you don't want to be robbed of your good.
Employing Positive Focus and Imagery
It's vital to bring forth your questions and ensure that you are adequately resourced to genuinely obtain the desired results. This endeavor is foundational. It's imperative to observe our thoughts and redirect them toward what we desire. Envision possessing what you seek, embracing it, receiving it — this is the most potent way to utilize your mind. Imagining, sensing, seeing, and feeling you already have what you desire is paramount.
Conclusion
I eagerly anticipate hearing about your journey with the lion tamer analogy and whether you need any additional tools. Begin by being conscious of the beliefs that are operating, comprehend what your inner voice is communicating, and assess how you're performing in maintaining a positive focus with your mind. It's a pleasure to be with you today.
